Modern Retreat in Brazil

I came across this hillside gem in the most recent issue of ELLE DECOR and was immediately drawn to it. While the modern style isn't one that appeals to me, what I loved was how this home sits in start contrast to the lush greenery that surrounds it. The open floor-plan, use of glass and concrete throughout, and minimalist decor all juxtapose the natural elements that surround the home.

Full Thoughts

Or in other words, think of your present circumstances, whatever they may be, as your starting point or your square one. From this point, there is no clearly defined path for what is attainable or possible. It's all what you make of it from here. And that square one, or that starting point, will move around as life moves on.

Super Bowl Recipes

Link to recipe below.
Even if your team isn't in the Super Bowl, it's still fun to hang out, watch the game (or maybe just the halftime show), and pig out. I've rounded up a few recipes that are simple to make and don't sacrifice on taste or calories. Because after one indulgent weekend, one more isn't really going to do that much damage to your waistline. So eat up and enjoy the game!

100 Years of the "Perfect" Female Body

What follows below is a fascinating image found via GREATIST on how the female body has changed over the last 100 years. The ideal body for each decade reflects on what was popular during the time - broad shoulders, flat chests, padding for your booty, and how about the bread diet? I'd be up for that making a comeback. The important takeaway is that while it is hard not to chase what society deems sexy, you should embrace what your mama gave you, because as this clearly demonstrates, what is sexy or in is always changing.

Must-See Oscar Movies

The Oscars are slated for February 22nd and as usual, I haven't seen majority of the movies that are nominated. Here are a few nominees on my list that I hope to watch before the awards...

Birdman - Nominated for 9 awards including Best Picture and Michael Keaton for Best Actor.

The Imitation Game - Nominated for 8 awards including Best Picture and fan favorite/eye candy/sexy accent, Benedict Cumberbatch for Best Actor.

The Grand Budapest Hotel - Nominated for Best Picture and Wes Anderson for Best Director. I did see this one and, like most of Wes' movies, it was weird, but funny. And a great cast!

The Theory of Everything - Nominated for Best Picture, cutie Eddie Redmayne for Best Actor, and his on-screen wife Felicity Jones for Best Actress.

Gone Girl - Saw this, and totally recommend seeing the movie AND reading the book. Rosamund Pike is nominated for Best Actress for her creepy/crazy/psycho portrayal of Amy Dunn.

Selma - Only nominated for Best Picture. You can read the controversy HERE.

Into the Woods - The musical aspect doesn't appeal to me, but when Meryl Streep is nominated for Best Supporting Actress it's kind of a given.

The Judge - Robert Duvall is nominated for Best Supporting Actor.

Wild - I heard mixed things, but since Reese Witherspoon is nominated for Best Actress I feel like I should give it a chance.

Warm Spinach Salad

When I made this warm spinach salad last week, it was gone in a heartbeat. For containing so few ingredients, I couldn't believe how delicious it was. This is another great recipe to have on hand for weeknights when you get home and are so ravenous you'll eat anything in sight. In less than 20 minutes, you can satisfy the hangry (hungry + angry) mess you've become with this healthy dinner.

Weekly Roundup: January 16, 2015

Work was super busy this week. With a big project on the horizon, I had things I wanted to write about but I was tired. So yes, I was just being lazy. With just a few things planned for the long weekend, I'm hoping to regroup and get back to business.

White Bean Chipotle Dip

When I found THIS RECIPE I knew it was one I needed to make sooner rather than later and NYE was just the occasion to test it out. In 5 minutes (I kid you not) you have have a healthy appetizer that packs some serious heat. Paired with tortilla chips or crackers, this spread would go great on a pita with some veggies for a nice, light lunch.

2015 Golden Globes Fashion

Every time the Golden Globes roll around I realize I have a lot of movies I need to see before the Oscars. Last nights awards had some big winners for performances that were truly award worthy - Amy Adams, Matt Bomer, Joanne Froggatt, the list goes on. But as usual, the fashion takes the forefront because, let's be real, that's what those of us who haven't seen most of the movies tune in for. There were so many dresses I loved last night it was hard to narrow down who was my favorite, so here we go...

Weekly Roundup: January 9, 2014

IMAGE
As we wrap up the first full work-week of 2015, I'm already getting the sense that this year is going to FLY by and as much as that means another year older, I'm excited for all that's in store. But yet, as the weather continues to get colder, all I can think about is how badly I want a vacation. And again, I try to remind myself it's only the beginning of the year.

Thank you Refinery 29 for reading my mind. VACATIONS TO BOOK NOW.

New Year, New Gear

If you're like me and one of your goals this year is to pick a workout routine and stick to it, it's easy to justify the need for some new fitness gear. And it's easier to at least want to workout when you have cute clothes, am I right?

It's All In The Details

When I stumbled upon this dream Pacific Palisades home on DOMAINE, my jaw nearly hit the floor. The light, neutral palette caught my eye, but what really did it for me were the details. You can tell that the interior designer, KISHANI PERERA, pays extremely close attention to detail. I mean check out the herringbone floor (!!), the tiles used throughout the home (!!!), THAT STAIRCASE! My god, this is what dreams are made of. One day Jen, one day. Until then, I'll swoon over these photos.

Chicken Noodle Soup

It seems as though everyone decided yesterday that they were going to post their Chicken Noodle Soup recipes, but I missed the memo. So here's the recipe I whipped up Sunday afternoon. This was perfect to come home to last night as the wind picked up here in NYC. Nothing better than a nice hot bowl of soup. Ok, maybe a mug of hot chocolate. But I took care of that too LAST NIGHT! Enjoy the soup recipe below - quick and easy!
